What Is Over-the-Road Trucking

The CEO and president of Logistics Group International (LGI), a transportation company in Houston, Texas, Stephen Patrick Day is an accomplished entrepreneur. Possessing upwards of two decades of experience in the transportation industry, Stephen Day and his team at Logistics Group International also offer hazmat and over-the-road (OTR) trucking services.

When freight is hauled over a long distance, usually across national borders or state lines, it is regarded as OTR trucking. This type of trucking hauls all types of freight, from vehicles and construction materials to consumer goods. OTR drivers often spend three to four weeks on the road and often work in teams of two so drivers can remain compliant with driving regulations without losing road time.

OTR trucking usually pays the best out of regional trucking and local trucking jobs due to the time spent away from home. With regional trucking, drivers operate in a particular region rather than working across all United States. They are still on the road for several days at a time, but they have regular days off. Local drivers are home at the end of every day, similar to a traditional hourly job.
