Streamlining Sustainability for Third-Party Logistics

Houston-based logistics provider Logistics Group International (LGI) was founded in 2002 by Stephen Patrick Day with the goal of becoming the No. 1 provider of third-party logistics (3PL) services for the energy, construction, and manufacturing industries. Stephen Day is an accomplished senior executive with more than two decades of experience in logistics and transportation.

In the 3PL sector, like in many others, sustainability is becoming a growing concern. And, with a few basic initiatives, 3PL providers stand a lot to gain from a move toward sustainability.

A major opportunity is in the design and construction of new distribution centers. A warehouse’s energy profile can be significantly improved and streamlined if energy conservation strategies are used in its construction. Using better insulation, heat retaining curtains, and other energy-saving elements can reduce operating costs considerably.

Facility lighting is also a meaningful way to make a difference in the bottom line. Programmable switches and LED lighting can reduce energy costs and the heat produced by incandescent bulbs. While making environmentally-friendly changes may carry an initial cost, the long-term benefits justify the investment.
