Streamlining Sustainability for Third-Party Logistics

Houston-based logistics provider Logistics Group International (LGI) was founded in 2002 by Stephen Patrick Day with the goal of becoming the No. 1 provider of third-party logistics (3PL) services for the energy, construction, and manufacturing industries. In the 3PL sector, like in many others, sustainability is becoming a growing concern. And, with a few basic initiatives, 3PL providers stand a lot to gain from a move toward sustainability.

A major opportunity is in the design and construction of new distribution centers. A warehouse’s energy profile can be significantly improved and streamlined if energy conservation strategies are used in its construction. Using better insulation, heat retaining curtains, and other energy-saving elements can reduce operating costs considerably.

Facility lighting is also a meaningful way to make a difference in the bottom line. Programmable switches and LED lighting can reduce energy costs and the heat produced by incandescent bulbs. While making environmentally-friendly changes may carry an initial cost, the long-term benefits justify the investment.
