Lamborghini, one of the pioneers of supercars, manufactures expensive, stylish, and high-performance cars that can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 220. Committed to innovation, Lamborghini is working on making its supercars emissions-free but not with lithium-ion batteries that are known for being too heavy and incapable of performing at a consistently high level.
Since 2017, Lamborghini has been working closely with researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to explore two potential solutions: a new carbon-made battery that can be integrated into the interior of the car to minimize weight, and a supercapacitor, which is an entirely different type of energy storage that carries the same power as a lithium-ion battery but is three times lower in density.
